Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 4, 2026

Overtone doesn't collect your data.

Overtone is an independent interval timer for iPhone. It plays cue sounds over whatever music you're listening to, even with the screen locked. It has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no third-party software kits, and it makes no network connections of its own. Everything you do in Overtone stays on your phone.

What Overtone accesses on your device

Microphone

Overtone asks for microphone access only if you choose the "Record your own" option to make a custom cue sound. The recording is saved in Overtone's own storage on your device. It is never uploaded anywhere, and you can delete it inside the app at any time. If you never record a sound, Overtone never uses the microphone.

Local storage

Your timer settings, chosen sounds, and any recordings are stored on your device in Overtone's app storage. Deleting the app removes all of it.

What we don't collect

We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. That includes your name, email address, location, contacts, health or fitness data, usage statistics, crash reports, device identifiers, or anything about your sessions. Because Overtone has no servers and no analytics, there is nothing for us to see, share, or sell. In App Store privacy terms, Overtone's answer is Data Not Collected.

Purchases

Overtone offers a free 30-day Trial and a one-time Full Unlock (US$0.99). Both are in-app purchases processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles your payment details under its own privacy policy; Overtone only learns whether a purchase or trial is active, through Apple's StoreKit, so it can unlock the app. We never receive your payment information.

Live Activity

While a timer is running, Overtone can show its progress as a Live Activity on your lock screen. This is drawn by iOS on your device using the timer's current state. No information leaves your phone.

Children

Overtone is not directed at children, and because it collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children.

Changes to this policy

If Overtone ever changes in a way that affects your privacy, this page will be updated and the effective date above will change. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
